Cyanogen Inc has released Android 4.4-based CyanogenMod 11.0 M1 for select Nexus devices like Nexus 7 (all versions), Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 10. This is a surprising move as CyanogenMod team would traditionally be rolling out nightlies at this point but they have gone ahead and rolled-out the first monthly release for Nexus devices.CyanogenMod logo

Here is the reason for this change, as explained in the CyanogenMod blog:

“Some background on this change of order. Normally, this would be the point in time where we turn on CM 11 nightlies. From there, we would spend the next few weeks (or longer) in the nightlies, all the while not allowing you guys (the users) to offer support in the form of bug reports. Taking reports against the constantly changing nightly codebase is too resource intensive, but at the same time, waiting another month to get them going is, in all honesty, wasted time. So, with this change, we are going for the best of both.”

According to the Cyanogen Inc, there should not be any issues with this release but you can always expect odd bugs here and there, which would be fixed in future releases. You can download the CM 11 M1 for Nexus devices from download.cyanogenmod.org or use CM updater on your device or install it via CyanogenMod Installer (for first time users).

Cyanogen Inc has also revealed that they will be starting CM 11 nightlies for other devices soon including Galaxy Nexus.
